The final battle to decide the fate of the world is at hand. Either the Dragons Of Earth will triumph and save the planet while wiping out the human race, or the Dragons Of Heaven will triumph and stop them. Leading the forces of the Dragons Of Earth are some of the most purely evil and determined villains who've ever lived, while at the head of the Dragons Of Earth is Kamui, an extremly reluctant hero who wants only to protect his two life-long friends and has no desire to try and save the world. Good is not going to have an easy time of it. This stunning anime is filled with a sense of ominous forboding (appropriate for a story in which life as we know it could come to an end) and an amazing dreamlike feel (indeed, much of it takes place in dreams... and those scenes are every bit as real as the scenes taking place in the waking world). And John Woo himself would be roud of the way it all comes down in the end to a life and death struggle between two devoted friends. If what you're after is stunning visuals, don't worry... this film has those too, in abundance. But the story and characters are the main elements that make this movie worth seeing. The style is impressive, but the substance even more so.

Director: Taro Rin (1996)
