After the Crescent (Yuet Moot Lo)(China/Hong Kong 1997, VHS, 123 min.) Director: Chang Wai-Hung
Director's BiographyChang Wai-huang was born in Hong Kong in 1963 and has been writing on film since 1983. He started his career as a screenwriter in 1985 when he joined Jackie Chan's Golden Way Films Production. He wrote and directed his first feature, After the Crescent (97), with a grant from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Among the Stars (2000), also funded by the HKADC, is Part II of his Lunar Trilogy. Director's Note"For Meme, the days of her childhood in Wanchai seem to be vanishing. The trams are still there, yes, but they don't "ding-ding" any more. Now she only knows how to indulge herself in her good old days. Who knows when a breakthrough can be expected? Today is the lunar fifteenth and the moon is full. The earth has already experienced many full moons, but this is the first one for Meme and it seems to reflect her annoyance, expectations, loneliness, love and even the magical moment of her little life. This night is not going to be a normal night at all." |
