The 1990s saw the surfacing of Stephen Chow & Sword Fight Comedies.
At the end of 80s, too many similar comedies were made. The tendency was parodying and exaggeration of HK and Hollywood films. They were repetitive, derivative, and formulaic. Most of time, films contained only moments. But on the whole, many were seriously flawed.
In the 90s, entered Stephen Chow to rejuvenate Social Satire Comedy genre. Chow's superb acting skills, clever manipulation of different facial expressions has earned him the name " King of Comedy." Two of his films highlights both slap-stick comedy in modern society and period costume - From Beijing with Love and Royal Tramp.
