Drunken Master

Drunken Master (Hong Kong 1978, DVD, 107 min.)

Directed by Yuen Woo-ping, starring Jackie Chan, Dean Shek, Casanova Wong, Pan Pan Yeung

Showtime:

Jackie Chan played the young Wong Fei-hong. Although the family owns a martial arts school, Wong is too disobedient to learn from his own father.  So he is sent to learn kung-fu from the Master of the Eight Drunken Steps (Simon Yuen Sin Tin).  Meanwhile, a rival landowner places a price on Wong's father's head...and an assassin answers the call....

A film that belongs on the short list of kung fu classics everyone must see, Drunken Master is the film that not only changed the way the world looked at the Wong Fei-Hong legend, but also a great showcase of Jackie Chan's slapstick comedic talents. It finally allowed Jackie Chan to establish his trademark of kung fu comedy that has made him a legend. It's also the prequel to the best Jackie Chan film EVER - Drunken Master II.
