China Dolls and other short pieces


This program will feature short documentary and experimental works by Asian-Americans, Asian-Canadians, and Asian-Australians. The feature pieces will be Tony Ayres' internationally acclaimed China Dolls (Australia, 1997, VHS, 28 minutes), a visually stunning and emotionally frank discussion of structuring Asian gay male identity and desire in a white society. Personal, entertaining, and empowering. Program also to feature Wayne Yung's The Queen's Cantonese (33 min., 1998) and Hoang Nguyen's Maybe Never (But I'm Counting the Days) (15 min. 1996), and Lynne Chan's untitled (My Mama). (10 min, 1997).
