Prompted by the end of the century, Asian Media Access is looking back at Chinese history as it has been depicted in Chinese film. Offering over 20 films from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the People's Republic of China, the Showcase will run Thursday, April 29 - Sunday, May 2 and Thursday, May 6 - Sunday May 9, with all screenings at Metropolitan State University Auditorium in St. Paul. Curated by AMA's Executive Director Ange Hwang, the Showcase will feature an impressive and eclectic sampling of filmmaking talent, all depicting a variety of periods in China's history, from the beginning of the millennium to the recent events of yesterday. Presenting histories writ large and small, the Showcase will exhibit both wide screen epics that chart the tumult of nation-forming and more contemporary stories acted out against the vivid backdrops of today's China. |
