The third part of a projected gangsterland trilogy that opened with As Tears Go By (Part II never appeared), Final Victory is Patrick Tam's version of what Wong Kar-wai considers his best screenplay. Mostly a black comedy with a perhaps troubling view of women as trouble, Final Victory presents Eric Tsang as a bumbling brother/aide to a gang boss played with award-winning menace by entertainment tsar Tsui Hark. As his boss is jail-bound, Tsang must mind his brother's wife and girlfriend, all the while keeping their existence a secret from each other. Tsang, hands already full with this assignment, complicates matters further by falling for one of his charges.
