2011 Media Camp will be held from October 20 - 23 at Phillippo Scout Reservation in Cannon Falls, MN.

To see what the students have made in the media camp from previous year, go to Youth In Charge web site to see their short films.

When: Fall every year during the Education Minnesota Professional Conference (previously called MEA) weekend.
Who can apply: Open to all youth grades 9-12 but with Asian Americans focus.

Through hands-on media training, the Media Camp for Asian American Youth will provide students with a chance to explore current issues in forms which can effectively reach a broad audience.

Students will be assigned to one of the four training groups - Video Production, Video Editing, Creative Writing and Photography - and will receive specialized training in the area. Students will then collaborate with each other in production groups and produce their own short videos, written articles and photographs.

Students will learn:
  • Video Production: learn how to operate a video camera; how to compose a scene, how composition affects the telling of a story
  • Video Editing: learn how to piece together a story using non-linear editing technology on a computer
  • Creative Writing: learn how to write through experiences and emotion
  • Photography: discover the power of photography; tell stories through photographs; learn operations of a camera and composition of scenes
When to Apply: late September to mid October
